Biddeford students have been immersed in all things PLANTS! We started with a hike at Clifford Park, a local forest ecosystem, to explore native plants and trees. We also visited the Biddeford Community Garden where students turned compost, planted seeds, and picked a plant to bring home. Students learned about seed dispersal and incorporated their learning into art projects like plant prints and mini-books. Students shared their artist statements and offered feedback during a gallery walk.
Portland students have been deeply engaged in a photography unit, learning how to use forced perspective, shoot action shots, and explore food portraits. Students continue to build healthy living and leadership skills in our Healthy Heroes Club. We have been exploring the science behind making tasty, healthy snacks in our Chef’s Unit.
Our Saco program introduced some new physical activities based on student interests: a Soccer Club and an Outdoor Games Club. We continue to learn about Capybaras in Brazil. We had a great visit from Mr. Drew and His Animals Too! Everyone enjoyed seeing, touching, and learning about some interesting animals.
The Waterboro program is enjoying our annual 5th Grade Club projects. During this time, our 5th graders have the opportunity to create and guide academic enrichment clubs for younger students. They take on all the tasks that our teachers normally perform – lesson planning, budgeting, adapting for student abilities, and more. We love seeing them lead effectively!
