Biddeford Afterschool students enjoyed learning about the Earth and nature this month. They explored how to protect natural resources and did various ecology activities. Students also recorded weather observations in their journals.
Director Rebecca Cote recently presented to the Biddeford School Board. She shared information about our partnership with the Biddeford School Department and highlighted the successes and challenges of the program.
Many Portland Afterschool students just wrapped up Service Squad, a student-driven service learning project. Students learned about the impact of community service and advocacy. As a group, they decided to focus on shelter animals and endangered species. Their action plan included making posters about their causes, inviting the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland to visit, starting a donation drive for the animal shelter wish list, making an announcement to the school about the donation drive, and building a 3D sculpture of an endangered giant panda.
Saco Afterschool students continued a Go2Science mission about tigers and birds in Thailand. Family members joined students for an Art Night with a local artist and used light boards to draw animals from their mission. Additionally, students wrapped up art, board game, and book clubs and are looking forward to choosing new groups soon.
Waterboro Afterschool students were engaged in studying fossils and dinosaurs through Go2Science. They tracked down the existence of the Deinonychus dinosaur through various hands-on STEAM projects.
