Biddeford Afterschool staff were thrilled to welcome back students! They have been getting to know each other, participating in team building exercises, and enjoying outdoor activities. Kindergarten students learned about apples and leaves, first and second graders focused on chemistry, and third and fourth graders learned how to observe and record data like scientists.
Portland Afterschool locations opened with a focus on community building and setting clear expectations to create strong, supportive learning environments. Students will start two exciting units: exploring STEAM principles through health, wellness, and physical activity and Building Communities, where they’ll learn about diversity, advocacy, and community resources.
Saco students are off to a great start. They are getting acquainted with each other and with the program expectations. They are learning about the skills and practices of scientists, in preparation for their interactions with real scientists who are conducting and sharing their research through Go2Science.
Waterboro Afterschool staff and students began the school year by learning about community building. They are looking forward to learning about animals in a new unit inspired by the Universal Design for Learning framework.
We are so proud of Waterboro staff member Brigham McCann who received the Rising Star Award at the 2025 Maine Out of School Time Conference. Alex Tranchemontagne, our Waterboro Afterschool Director, shared:
At only 18 years old, Brigham shows up every day consistently with reliability, energy, and professionalism that exceeds expectations… She has built strong, meaningful relationships with the students, who look up to her as a role model. Her work ethic, maturity, and heart for children truly set her apart.
