Biddeford students enjoyed a one week session with artist Jeff Erwin from Junk2Funk culminating with a performance for their families on their recycled instruments. Family members even got to join in and play instruments as well. Students also spent the month learning about all things spring- including plants, worms, pollinators, and weather. Staff and students are looking forward to this summer’s programming with the theme “Going Places!”
Portland students have been busy learning and giving back to their community. Activities have included building race cars from recycled materials, using polaroid cameras to capture photos of nature, and playing squash with Portland Community Squash. Students have also been picking up trash around their schools and preparing for end of the year celebrations with their families.
Over the past month, Saco students have been focusing on spending lots of time outdoors. To encourage physical activity and time in nature, we have been offering a variety of engaging clubs. In Outdoor Games, students enjoyed classic games like Sharks and Minnows and The Great Wind Blows. In the Sports Club, they practiced and played baseball and soccer, along with exploring fundamentals in track and field. Finally, Gardening Club members had hands-on experiences discussing, planting, and caring for a variety of flowers, vegetables, and fruit plants.
Waterboro students are ending the year with one of our most exciting traditions- 5th Grade Clubs! 5th Graders get to design their own multi day curriculum for the younger students and even get a budget to manage. Steering these clubs is an amazing leadership opportunity and culminating experience for our 5th graders.
