Brice Ndayisenga

Brice Ndayisenga is currently a member of the LearningWorks board. Originally from Burundi, Brice relocated to Atlanta as a teenager with a scholarship to study business, finance, and economics at Morehouse College. After graduation, Brice moved to Portland, where his brother was living. In May 2017, in his search for a job in Maine, Brice was connected to LearningWorks and began working as a volunteer front desk receptionist as well as an assistant teacher in our English Language + Literacy Program (EL+LP).

Brice reflected on his time as an assistant teacher, saying “I was helping people overcome challenges I went through as well.” As an immigrant who spoke little English before moving to the United States, Brice could relate to the people he was helping. He enjoyed working in an environment where he could help people learn the language, break the language barrier, learn American culture, and help them get over culture shock and navigate through their lives with basic activities like going to the grocery store and banking that are often taken for granted. Brice went through similar struggles, but thanks to LearningWorks and the large Burundian community in Portland, he has been able to adjust and be a mentor in helping other members of the community adjust as well.

In the spring of 2018, Brice was asked to be a member of the LearningWorks board, which he gladly accepted, and we have been thrilled to have him ever since! He currently works at cPort Credit Union as a loan officer. His input on our finance committee has been invaluable, steering our mission and services from a unique perspective.
