Overview and Position Summary: 

Goodwill is hiring a Youth Career Advisor that will work with youth/young adults ages 16-24 with various barriers to employment.  The Youth Career Advisor will work on-site at our local partner agency, LearningWorks, to support clients enrolled in our YouthBuild programming as part of a team-based approach.

Clients will be working on attainment of diploma or equivalency, work-readiness and soft skills development, construction skills and other career pathways in small cohorts.  The Youth Career Advisor will help with all aspects of the programming, with a particular focus on helping with work-readiness and soft skills development, helping individuals link to local career-related internships, volunteer opportunities, or employment, and transitions beyond the cohort YouthBuild programming to work or further training.

Successful candidates will enjoy working with youth/young adults with diverse backgrounds, team settings, both 1-1 and small group client work, and advocating with local employers for opportunities.

Job Summary:

1)  Works with customers to assess work-related abilities, skills and knowledge while assisting the customer in developing and carrying out a personal plan which may include resume writing, interviewing, and financial stability strategies.

  • Builds and maintains partnership with referral providers of work related services.
  • Provides job assessments and employment opportunities for customers as outlined in their personal plan.
  • Establishes and maintains connections and relationships with community businesses to promote and further the Agencies services.

2)  Represents the Agency in all interactions with other members of the Goodwill community and with the general public, supporting the agency Vision of creating sustainable communities that thrive through the fullest participation of their diverse residents.

3)  Furthers the organizational commitment to triple bottom line results: integrating social, economic and environmental goals into thinking, planning and actions.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency, in combination with either:
    – Experience working with priority populations of program supporting
    – Experience developing business relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to travel as required to worksites, training locations, partner agencies and client access points.
  • Valid driver’s license permitting operation of a vehicle with a safe driving record
  • Criminal background check that meets Agency standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS in business, human services, human relations or related fields.
  • Experience supporting clients with barriers to employment
