Overview and Position Summary:
The full-time Site Director will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of a LearningWorks Afterschool + Summer 21st Century Community Learning Center school-based program site at Governor John Fairfield School in Saco. The Site Director onboards, develops, coaches, supports, and supervises all program staff. S/he provides oversight for all program activities and works in collaboration with school building staff, other district and agency departments, and local community partners to develop and implement a high quality program. This role will directly supervise one (1) Site Coordinator and a staff including teachers, ed techs, and volunteers.
LearningWorks Afterschool (LWAS) serves low-performing students in eleven elementary schools in a 4-day/week program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum and enrichment activities (health/wellness, cultural, social-emotional learning). Students participate in engineering design challenges with embedded literacy and math instruction and hands-on projects to build key skills for school success: teamwork, problem-solving, communication, perseverance – all in an experiential and supportive learning environment. LWAS includes a six-week summer program each year.
Provide management of 21st Century Community Learning Center grant from the Maine Department of Education, including data collection, reporting, and financial and administrative requirements;
Provide high-quality, interactive instructional STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programming either in person or remotely, that utilizes instructional practices based on scientifically based research;
Operate program during school year calendar, including instructional and enrichment services during the summer months;
Coordinate with school staff to recruit and enroll student participants;
Coordinate program development and schedule with school and district;
Coordinate with Superintendent’s Office, Building Principal(s), Food Service, and Transportation Director(s);
Oversee development of STEAM curriculum in collaboration with LWAS staff;
Ensure delivery of STEAM curriculum is aligned with each building’s academic goals;
Coordinate with building principals to ensure that each site’s learning space is safe, organized, and appropriate;
Effectively develop and communicate program activities with LearningWorks leadership and relevant school district-level staff;
Develop and maintain the planning and management of a yearly budget for the LWAS program;
Coordinate ongoing opportunities and events for parental involvement, and provide parents with materials to assist their child’s learning;
Lead quarterly meetings of a local LWAS Advisory Board;
Cultivate and maintain community-based partnerships that add value to the program;
Use student assessment data to inform programming and curriculum focus;
Communicate program information to stakeholders (parents, school day staff, school administration, and funders);
Establish staff performance management expectations and practices that align with agency policies and procedures;
Plan and coordinate monthly training opportunities for all program staff to develop skills and best practice performance in all STEAM curriculum areas and student behavior management;
Participate in weekly staff meetings facilitated by site coordinators;
Ensure sustainability for the program by stewarding funders, writing grants, completing grant reports, and coordinating grant writing with Development Department as needed; and
Other duties as identified by agency leadership
State of Maine Teaching Certification or demonstrate eligibility (preferred)
BA or BS in Education or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Minimum 2 years teaching experience; experience with elementary-aged youth preferred;
Supervisory and/or leadership experience;
The ability to facilitate relationships with a diverse array of professionals, including agency leadership, funders, and key stakeholders;
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills;
Computer / technology skills including database experience, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms), and more;
Strong experience with fiscal and administrative management;
Flexibility, thoughtfulness, and the ability to creatively problem solve;

Compensation and Benefits:
The salary for this position is $41,860 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. It is a full-time, exempt position working 35 hours a week.
