Overview and Position Summary: 


We are seeking a Communications + Events Specialist to help us meet annual fundraising goals and ensure strong internal and external agency communications. All fundraising at LearningWorks goes directly to supporting free education programs that help people not well served by the traditional education system. We reach over 1,500 Mainers each year with tutoring, mentoring, and alternative education programs designed for the growth and success of all learners. Our Communications + Events Specialist will be an integral part of our board and staff development team, helping to create memorable and high impact events that raise critical dollars to support our students and to communicate about our programs’ successes and needs to reach both internal and external audiences.



  • Update our website to ensure all pages, photos, news and events, and donation pages are accurate and up to date
  • Create and post mission related and promotional content to all of our social media accounts on a regular schedule
  • Create and distribute press releases and advisories, maintain relationships with media stakeholders, ensure regular, meaningful coverage of our staff, students, and organization in local and national media
  • Publish biweekly annual staff bulletin in collaboration with program and admin teams
  • Publish quarterly newsletter for the community in collaboration with program and development staff
  • Assist with creation, print, and distribution of fundraising collateral including appeal letter mailings, one sheets, rack cards, reports, and presentations
  • Keep media contact lists up to date; manage and organize mass email software (lists, templates, and more)
  • Develop strong connections to our community and engage them in our work to meet fundraising goals


  • Schedule, promote, and coordinate all logistics for annual benefit nights in partnerships with local businesses and restaurants
  • Oversee all logistics for house parties to raise awareness of and support for our mission
  • Manage major annual fundraising event, including staff engagement, peer to peer campaigns, promotion, ticket sales, event planning and logistics, and serve as a liaison between development staff, board, and all event vendors to ensure smooth, seamless execution of event
  • Schedule and coordinate donor tours and program visits
  • Support program staff in execution of regular program events (graduation, celebrations of learning, etc.) and ensure key stakeholders are informed and invited to participate
  • Coordinate board meetings and staff events. Set annual schedules, send reminders, prepare and distribute agendas, packet, and presentation materials, manage meeting logistics.


 Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Belief in our organizational values and support for our mission
  • Ability to work independently to meet goals and deadlines
  • Basic graphic design skills; experience with Adobe Suite preferred
  • Experience with MS Office products and Google Workspace
  • Experience with WordPress platform
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to plan and execute annual communications and events calendar to meet strategic and fundraising goals
  • Experience with social media management tools
  • Experience with CRM software (Bloomerang preferred)
  • Previous experience managing events and communications

Compensation and Benefits

LearningWorks offers a generous benefits package that includes  PTO (152 hours to start, with incremental increases), 8 weeks paid parental leave, 13 paid holidays plus additional time off between Christmas and New Year’s Day, medical/dental/life insurance, bereavement, Health Reimbursement Account when enrolled in agency health plan, and a matched 401(k) retirement savings plan, after one year of employment. In addition, we offer flexible scheduling and remote work options. The salary range for this position is $55-$60,000.
