Job Title: LearningWorks Afterschool Teacher - Summer Program

 

The Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing Science,
Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum in the LearningWorks Afterschool (LWAS) program at Ocean Avenue School or Presumpscot Elementary. LWAS is funded through the 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. Job Title:  Project Director, Partners for Empowering Immigrant Youth

 

LearningWorks, a southern Maine non-profit organization providing education services to at-risk youth, the immigrant community and low-income families, in partnership with the Institute for Civic Leadership and consultant Steve Wessler, has received a one-year planning grant to examine why immigrant and refugee youth are disproportionately represented in Maine’s juvenile justice system and to design a program that will affect a meaningful change in the lives of those youth.  The planning process will include:  extensive research to understand existing data and the underlying cultural, educational, social and economic factors contributing to the problem; community engagement of key stakeholders including immigrant youth, their families & neighborhoods, educators, juvenile justice leaders, the business community, local, regional and state government and social service providers; and collaborative program design and implementation.

 

Staffing:

 

The project will be staffed by a dedicated Project Director (.50FTE) who will coordinate research, outreach, community engagement, planning, facilitation, program development, curriculum design, partnership development and information dissemination.  The Project Director will report directly to the planning partnership.
